Last spring, my daughter organized a community showcase to benefit a local animal shelter and solicited classmates and community members to perform in 15-minute slots. The showcase, called "Applause for Paws," was intended to benefit the Valley Oak SPCA. Max, or "Magical Max," as we came to call him, was one of the first to volunteer to perform, and soon my daughter had eight performers scheduled for the two-hour window of the venue rental.

In the week before the showcase, four performers unexpectedly dropped out, and Magical Max offered to fill in the extra time. Boy, did he come through! Magical Max showed up with his table and props and confidently performed on stage for 45 minutes, calling up multiple volunteers and thoroughly wowing everyone in the audience.

Thanks to Magical Max and the other performers, my daughter was able to raise over $2,000 to donate to the Valley Oak SPCA, along with food, toys, and supplies for the animals.
